Just a short time ago, one of investigator Carlos Silvas colleagues talked to us about this man, this 48yearold man and the life he lived thousands of miles away from here. I worked with carlos, my big brother. Its very hard for me to say these words. I was his roommate. And actually, yesterday we talked a little bit of the world fire games. Police chief cathy lanier is praising the coordinated response to what turned out to be a false alarm at the Washington Navy yard. An employee thought she heard gunshot theres this morning, and Law Enforcement didnt take any chances. We saw a huge show of force. The chief says the woman who called this in did the right thing. She spoke up after a gunman killed 12 people nearly two years ago at the navy yard, local and federal agencies have been practicing their active shooter response. But employees in building 197 never expected to go through this again. They say, you know, what is the chances of lightning striking twice. Well, never thought it would happen again. Heard someone yelling get out of the Building Stay away from the cafeteria, get out of here. And everyone started running towards the exits. Authorities locked down the navy yard for about two hours today so they could search each building one by one. D. C. New at 11 tonight, were hearing from the passengers of a flight that had to be diverted from dulles airport. A woman started making threats on board a United Express flight from st. Louis to dulles and the pilot had to land the plane in columbus, ohio. I was told to put my tray up my computer away. And we were only about halfway through the flight. And then we just took a nosedive right towards the ground and did a really quick landing. I looked around. This isnt dulles airport. Officers arrested the woman. An agent isolated the passengers and their bags in a far corner of the airport. A bombsniffing dog checked them out. They didnt find anything and united put them on a different plane back to dulles. A group that wanted to put up ads on metro featuring a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad is now suing the Transit Agency. The American Freedom Defense Initiative says that metro violated its free speech rights by banning political and religious advertising for the remainder of the year. The Transit Agency made that decision in may shortly after the Prophet Muhammad ad was submitted. The cartoon featured in the ad won a contest in texas, a contest that was attacked by two men with connections to isis. The office of Personnel Management says it will keep doing background checks but you will have to use oldfashioned hardcopy forms and questionnaires. Preliminary investigation show two of the fires were started by Natural Causes and one was an electrical fire. Investigators are still examining the other fires and say they will bring charges on hate crimes if they have enough evidence. More than 3 million is going to charleston to help mothers of Emanuel Church and their families. Anonymous donors have pledged the money for education. The scholarship was fund was started in honor of the reverend pinckney. He and eight others were killed last month during a bible study at the church. Police say somebody shot 19yearold Heineken Mcneil of southeast d. C. Before he was burned. He was found in the trash on holbrooke terrace in the trinidad neighborhood. Police are offering a 25,000 reward if you have any information which will lead to a conviction in this case. A little boy from maryland is in the hospital tonight and police say his moms boyfriend put him there over a slice of birthday cake. The boy is in critical condition. The boyfriend is charged with first degree assault. Police say the moms boyfriend got mad because the 9yearold ate a piece of birthday cake without permission. Robert wilson allegedly dragged him into a bedroom, handcuffed him and beat him up. The little boy is from hagerstown, but he is being treated at Childrens Hospital in d. C.
