Local IS leader killed by govt forces in eastern Afghanistan ANI | Updated: Apr 18, 2021 14:25 IST Kabul [Afghanistan], April 18 (ANI/Xinhua): A local Islamic State (IS) leader was killed by Afghan Special Forces in the country's eastern Nangarhar province Saturday night, National Directorate of Security (NDS), the country's national intelligence agency, confirmed on Sunday. "Acting on a confirmed tip-off, the NDS Special Operations Forces conducted an operation in Kuz Kunar district, Nangarhar province, to arrest Kamin, known as Hakimullah, one of the IS newly designated local leaders," the agency said on Twitter. "A gunfight took place while the targeted man was planning to flee the area. As a result, Kamin, who served as IS military chief for Pachir Wa Agam and Haska Mina districts of Nangarhar was killed," the statement read.

Since late August, 8,783 families (about 61,481 people) who were displaced in Khanabad and Imam Sahib districts in Kunduz province were assessed. Among them, 4,664 families (32,648 people) were identified to receive immediate humanitarian assistance. Humanitarian assistance has reached 2,675 families (18,725 people). 22 interagency assessment teams continued to assess needs on the ground in Kunduz province. In Baghlan province, fighting reportedly killed two civilians in the Dara-e-Feroz areas of Khost Wa Fereng district and displaced 180 families (about 1,260 people) to the safer places in surrounding villages. In Takhar province, following successful negotiations between the local community and the party to the conflict, 200 families (1,400 people) returned to their place of origin in the Nahri-Ab area, Farkhar district.

Afghanistan: Weekly Humanitarian Update (3 - 9 August 2020) Format North-east: Fighting displaced 2,800 people in Kunduz province Fighting between Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and a non-state armed group (NSAG) continued across the north-east mainly in Badakhshan and Takhar provinces. During the reporting period, the number of security incidents increased by 16 per cent compared to the last week across the north-east and reportedly resulted in the deaths of 18 civilians and injuries of 5 others. 400 families (approximately 2,800 people) were reportedly displaced by ongoing conflict in Kohna Qala village and Band-e-Barq area in Aqtash, Khan Abad district, Kunduz province. On 7 August, landslides in Mal-Michani village in Khost Wa Fereng district, Baghlan province reportedly killed one woman and four children.

According to media, the worst-hit area is Kuz Kunar District (northern Nangarhar), where at least 16 people died and dozens of houses were damaged. Additional floods have been reported also in Parwan Province (central-eastern Afghanistan) where homes and roads were damaged or destroyed. Orange warnings for heavy rain and flash floods were issued for Kunar Province (eastern Afghanistan) on 3 August. Moderate to heavy rain is forecast over eastern and north-eastern Afghanistan on 3-4 August.[...]
