Customs Seizes 73 Firearms, Ammunition in Kebbi


The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has seized 73 locally manufactured firearms and 891 cartridges in Kebbi State.
In a tweet yesterday, the service said the arms and ammunition were concealed in a truck conveying locally produced rice.
It said the contrabands were seized after some of its officers on patrol searched the truck. It did not say what day the items were seized.
Three people have so far been arrested in connection to the illegal transportation of the contrabands, the service said.
“Officers of Nigeria Customs Service Federal operation unit zone B, on information patrol along Yauri, Zamare water side in Kebbi State, intercepted a truck loaded with locally produced rice with some sacks concealed under the rice,” the service tweeted. ....

Kebbi: Customs intercepts arms, ammunition concealed in bags of rice
The Nigerian Customs Service has intercepted a truck loaded with weapons which were concealed in bags of rice.
This was announced by the Customs’ Public Relations Officer, Joseph Attah in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
According to him, officers of the NCS, Federal Operation Unit, FOU, zone B, who were on patrol along the waterside, had seized a truck loaded with locally produced rice.
“Upon careful examination, the sacks were found to contain the weapons.”
He said the arms smugglers were coming from neighbouring Niger Republic before they were apprehended at Zamare/Yauri Axis of Kebbi State. ....
