LIC paid Rs 1.34 trn as claims to policyholders in FY21, marking growth


State-owned Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) said on Tuesday it earned its highest new business premium income, of Rs 1.84 trillion, in FY21. It paid claims worth Rs 1.34 trillion to policyholders.
LIC, in a late-night statement, said it procured 2.1 crore policies in FY21, out of which 46.72 lakh were in March. The procurement marked a growth of 298.82 per cent over last year for the corresponding month. In the individual assurance business, LIC has seen the highest ever first-year premium income of Rs 56,406 crore in FY21, up 10.11 per cent compared to last year.
The company’s pension and group schemes saw a record new business premium income of Rs 1.27 trillion. The number of new schemes also touched a record high of 31,795. ....

The country s largest life insurer LIC on Tuesday said it has collected the highest ever new business premium of Rs 1.84 lakh crore in the fiscal ended March 31, 2021.
The state-run insurer said the number is provisional. Its market share stood at 81.04 per cent in number of policies for March 2021 and 74.58 per cent for the full year, LIC said in a release.
During the fiscal 2020-21, the insurer achieved first year premium income of Rs 56,406 crore under individual assurance business, a growth of 10.11 per cent over FY20.
It procured 2.10 crore policies, out of which 46.72 lakh were procured in March alone, registering a growth of 298.82 per cent over FY20 for the corresponding month, the release said. ....

LIC said that it had earned about ₹564 billion of fresh premium or new business premium last fiscal selling about 2.10 crore policies commanding a market share of 66.18 per cent. ....

LIC grabbed 81 per cent shares of the total policies in March and more than 74 per cent for the full year.
In the fiscal year gone by, LIC achieved a record first-year premium income of Rs 56,406 crore under individual assurance business with a 10.11 per cent growth over last year.
LIC has also booked 21 million policies, out of which 4.67 million were procured in the month of March alone, with a growth of 298.82 per cent year on year.
“On the claims front, in spite of severe constraints due to Covid pandemic, LIC settled 21.9 million maturity claims, money back claims and annuities, amounting to Rs 1.17 lakh crore,” the insurer said in a press release. “The corporation settled 959,000 death claims amounting to Rs 18,137.34 crore.” ....
