Somebody asked me the other day to define “virtue signaling,” which I gladly did and will do now, because it’s so prevalent nowadays that people NEED to know what it is and how it affects us. A virtue signal is a very visible public action you take that shows what a good and caring person you are but that doesn’t actually make any other difference in the world.

GIC and ESR buy Australia logistics assets from Blackstone

Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC Pte Ltd and Hong Kong-based ESR Cayman have teamed up to acquire a portfolio of logistics properties from US private equity manager Blackstone Group for A$3.8 billion (US$2.93 billion).
The acquisition is being made via an investment vehicle, EMP, that is 80% owned by GIC and 20% by ESR, the logistics investment firm says in a statement on April 18.
According to ESR, this is “the most significant logistics portfolio transaction in Australia” encompassing 45 “high-quality, income-producing assets” across major state capitals.
ESR says it will become the third largest logistics landlord in Australia with A$7.9 billion of total assets after the deal. ....

Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer charged with killing
George Floyd, will not take the witness stand in his murder trial. After Chauvin affirmed his decision to invoke his Fifth Amendment right not to testify, his defense rested its case.
Eric Nelson, Chauvin s lawyer, argued that Floyd died because of underlying health conditions and illegal drug use. The defense called seven witnesses to rebut the prosecution s claims that Floyd died as a result of asphyxia after being pinned down for over nine minutes by Chauvin. They also argued that Chauvin s actions were appropriate and that the crowd that gathered during the arrest distracted him. ....

dojo and the cage, itâs very different on the streetâfor several reasons. First, you can grapple with only one person at a time, which means you commit yourself to a single threat. Obviously, that exposes you to any additional threats that may exist.
Second, grappling occupies both your hands. If youâre a police officer carrying a gun, knife or Taser, that can pose a weapon-retention problem. While youâre using your hands to control the attacker, he can let go with one hand, remove your weapon from your belt and use it against you. (Many times Iâve overseen drills in which cops have role-played suspects and arresting officers, and the officersâ guns were removed without their knowing it way too often.) ....
