KUALA LUMPUR: The Environment and Water Ministry (KASA) is in the midst of drafting the establishment of a National Environment Commission to update environment-related matters.
Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (
pix) said the commission will also cover elements linked to climate change.
“We are in the midst of drafting the creation of a commission because environmental issues are a major concern and there is a need to establish it to review all elements, including climate change.
“This is so that we can view the environmental element as an integrated element that can be developed together,” he told reporters after a visit to Universiti Malaya (UM) here today.

The new Carbon Footprint Study for Portlaoise was carried out as part of the Ireland 2040 Plan which identifies the town of Portlaoise as a national demonstration project for implementing sustainable and community-driven urban renewal.
As part of this Portlaoise has been allocated funding to advance towards the status of ‘Low Carbon Town’ as part of the Ireland 2040 demonstration project.

The €9 million allocated to Portlaoise shows that the Government has confidence in the town s future, according to Laois County Council s Chief Executive.
Mr John Mulholland added that money for the Low Carbon Town Placemaking initiative would mean the council could now push ahead with projects in the town centre.
