Published: 01 February 2021 PHILIPSBURG; - The St. Maarten Tzu Chi Foundation reached 2,903 families by the end of December after extending its holiday relief to the end of the year to be able to help more households. In total Tzu Chi’s holiday relief reached 2,903 families, which is estimated to benefit 9,448 family members. In addition, four institutions were also provided with relief items. Of the number of recipients assisted 1,176 indicated that they are in arrears in their rent; 1,874 had either no work and no income or only worked a few hours in the week. A total of 334 volunteers participated in the 13 relief efforts to assist the families. ....
Published: 29 December 2020 PHILIPSBURG: - The St. Maarten Tzu Chi Foundation helped spread some holiday cheer to 1,530 families just before Christmas when it donated food packages to the families in an emergency holiday relief. A total of 1,530 packages were distributed, which is estimated to benefit 5,200 family members. Sacrificing their personal time to make the distribution possible over a five-day period were 158 volunteers. Efforts were made to ensure that social distancing and other protocols were adhered to during the distribution. Of the 1,530 persons who received packages, 988 either have no jobs or no income and 542 were backlogged in their rent. The food packages contained a 10lb bag of rice, 10lb bag of flour, baking powder, 32oz bottle of oil, 1kg bag of brown sugar, dried black peas and lentils peas, salt, 4 rolls of toilet paper and a 32oz bottle of Clorox.
