Hospitalizations surpass 600 as Alberta adds 1,495 COVID-19 cases


 
EDMONTON
Alberta added 1,495 COVID-19 cases on Monday as hospitalizations and ICU admissions continue to spike.
The province now has 20,610 active cases, the second highest count to date, and 616 people in hospital, 145 of whom are in intensive care.

On Tuesday Alberta Health Services confirmed there were 26 cases of people with COVID-19 in three hospitals across the south zone, and five being treated in ICUs.
Of the 26 hospitalized cases there were 17 in Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge and two of them were in ICU.
Medicine Hat Regional Hospital had eight patients with COVID and three of them were in ICU.
There was also one COVID-19 positive patient in the Cardston Health Centre.

Alberta's COVID-19 cases dropping, but restrictions could stay longer if rules ignored

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health says she is optimistic as the province’s COVID-19 cases have begun to decline, but warned Wednesday current restrictions could stay in place longer if businesses don’t comply.
With 875 cases, the province reported less than 1,000 new cases of the disease for the fifth day in a row. Dr. Deena Hinshaw said at a news conference twice now Albertans have reduced the rising spread of the disease by collectively limiting the number of people they interact with.
