Villupuram Member of Parliament D. Ravikumar has urged the Puducherry administration to ensure that adequate steps are taken to utilise all the government hospitals to treat COVID-19 patients.
In a memorandum presented on Monday to Lt. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan seeking steps to tackle the pandemic situation, Mr. Ravikumar said that presently the incidence of COVID-19 in Puducherry was on the rise as could be evidenced by the registration of not less than 1, 000 cases a day.
He said 90% of the patients were in home isolation. This is a discouraging sign as the chances of spread of pandemic were strong. This should be reversed and the government should ramp up facilities, he said. ....

Puducherry [India], April 23 (ANI): All elective OPD services will be temporarily suspended in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) from Monday in wake of increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Puducherry.
The admissions to the hospital for non-emergency services will also be suspended here.
To provide care to critically ill Covid-19 patients and to reduce the risk of transmission of the disease to non-Covid patients coming for OPD consultation. It has been decided to suspend physical visits for elective OPD services temporarily from April 26, said an official statement on Friday. ....

‘There is severe shortage in Jipmer, other govt. hospitals’
The Puducherry unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged Lieutenant-Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to ensure that the life-saving Covifor injection for COVID-19 patients is made available at an affordable price.
In a statement, BJP unit president V. Swaminathan said there was a severe shortage of the drug at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) and other government hospitals in Puducherry. Though the territorial administration had fixed the price of the drug at ₹750-₹800 per vial, shops were selling it for a few thousands, he alleged. ....
