Telcos can get some airwaves for less than half the price paid earlier


Telecom operators can get spectrum in the 900 megahertz band, used for 4G services, in the upcoming auction for less than half the price paid for several circles in previous auctions, as per the base prices declared by the Department of Telecom.
While most of the base prices are based on the recommendations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), the Department of Telecom (DoT) has made some changes in the 700 megahertz and 1800 Mhz bands in select circles for the auctions scheduled to start from March 1.
This round of auction will be held for 2,251.25 megahertz (MHz) spectrum in seven frequency bands 700 Mhz, 800 Mhz, 900 Mhz, 1800 Mhz, 2100 Mhz, 2300 Mhz and 2500 Mhz at a cumulative base price of Rs 3.92 lakh crore recommended by Trai. ....

NEW DELHI: Bidding for the sixth round of spectrum auction for radiowaves worth Rs 3.92 lakh crore will start from March 1, according to a notice issued by the department of telecom on Wednesday.
The long-awaited spectrum auction is being held after a gap of four years and over two years after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) calculated and recommended base price for the radiowaves.
The DoT has fixed January 12 for the pre-bid conference and January 28 as the last date for seeking clarification to the notice. ....

India will hold spectrum auctions from March 1, after a gap of more than four years, offering 2,251.25 megahertz worth Rs 3.92 trillion, according to a notice issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
Spectrum will be offered in seven frequency bands 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, and 2500 MHz. The spectrum bands from 3,300 MHz to 3,600 MHz, which are the 5G airwave bands, have been kept aside.
The DoT has fixed January 12 for the pre-bid conference and January 28 as the last date for seeking clarifications on its notice.
The industry had been pitching for the 4G auctions, which was last held four years ago, as some licences in the bands were expiring in 2021. The auction was approved by the Union Cabinet on December 16. ....

The government will conduct auction for radiowaves worth ₹3.92 lakh crore on 1 March, the department of telecommunications (DoT) said in a notice on Wednesday. It will carry out single auction to assign spectrum blocks in the 700MHz (megahertz), 800MHz, 900MHz, 1,800MHz, 2,100MHz, 2,300MHz and 2,500MHz bands, the notice said.
The telecom department also invited applications from prospective eligible bidders to participate in the upcoming auction. It said it will pre-qualify applicants who meet the eligibility criteria for the sale of the radio airwaves. ....
