Case vs. Nueva Ecija radio station dismissed for lack of evidence
MANILA The case filed by a barangay chair in Nueva Ecija against a local community radio station over an alleged violation of Republic Act 11469 or the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act” has been dismissed due to lack of evidence.
Rolanda Domingo, chair of Barangay Manacsac in Guimba, Nueva Ecija sued members of Radyo Natin Guimba (RNG) and other citizens in June 2020 for supposedly spreading false information.
But the case was dismissed by the provincial local prosecutor. The Cabanatuan City prosecutor’s office ruled that there was a lack of evidence to support the allegations against RNG station manager Gie Herrera, field reporter Lina Villaflor, palay trader Nila Dela Cruz, and sponsor-donor and peasant leader Zandro Tomas. ....

Journalists and advocates for press freedom and human rights held a cycling event on Sunday morning as they called attention to what they said was the “worsening state of press freedom in the country.”
According to a report of Carlo Mateo on Dobol B sa News TV, the Bike for Press Freedom was led by the Altermidya Network, National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, and the International Association of Women in Radio and Television-Philippines. ....
