COVID-19 management: Assam Government releases Rs 49 crore under SDRF for its districts

GUWAHATI: The State Government has released Rs 49.64 crore SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) for its 34 districts for COVID-19 management.
The pandemic situation is going from bad to worse in the State, especially in Kamrup (M) district.
According to sources in the State Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) Department, such a release of the fund has been possible after the Union Ministry of Home Affairs allowed the use of up to 50 per cent of
SDRF money for COVID management purposes.
According to the MHA guidelines, such funds can t be used for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. The money can, however, be spent for making COVID patients provisions for temporary accommodations; food; clothing; quarantine camps (other than home quarantine); support for checking, screening and contact tracing; cost of thermal scanners; ventilation; consumables for government hospitals etc. ....

Not short on Oxygen, do not panic: Govt

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which is coordinating the supply of oxygen across the country, today claimed there was “no shortage” of the life-saving gas, but suggested it should be used “judiciously” by hospitals and medical practitioners.
Briefing media at a daily press conference on Covid management, Additional Secretary in the MHA Piyush Goyal said multiple efforts were being made to enhance production and transportation of oxygen to hospitals and patients. “It is very important for all hospitals to ensure judicious use of oxygen. Efforts are being made in this direction and we are getting positive results,” the MHA official said and appealed to people not to get “jittery about lack of oxygen”. Goyal was speaking to reporters in the presence of Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Union Health Ministry, and Dr Randeep Guleria, AIIMS Director. Post Poll Violence In Bengal Leaves Several Dead, Arson At BJP Offices

Union Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a report from the State government on the violence in West Bengal after assembly election results were announced on Monday.
 As per reports shared on Twitter and social media platforms many people were killed and scores, others injured in the violence unleashed allegedly by Trinamool Congress workers in several parts of the state.
The Home Ministry is said to have written a letter to the Bengal government seeking a report on the incidents of BJP candidates being allegedly attacked after the election results.
 
After the election results were announced, violence and arson was unleashed in various parts of West Bengal with miscreants allegedly torching the houses, damaging the properties of BJP leaders who contested the assembly elections. Three people were allegedly killed at Jamalpur in East Bardhaman district in a clash between BJP and TMC. ....
