Consecutively, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, asked all ad hoc committees of the House to lay their reports by the end of April 2021. He made the announcement on April 20; reminded the concerned committees again on April 21.
Indeed, many probes have been pending – or even abandoned – by the various panels given the tasks. Yet, hardly does the House sit without resolving to carry out one investigation or the other. It is a similar case in the Senate. ....

Police detention facilities overcrowded as judiciary workers' strike continues

Yunusa Agali and nine others have been detained by the police in Abuja since their arrest for burglary and theft on March 26 and 27.
The 10 of them have now spent over a month in a notorious detention facility, commonly referred to as ‘Human Abattoir’ which was used by the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other police tactical units.
The police have refused to grant them administrative bail, saying the offence is not bailable.
The police were supposed to promptly prefer charges against them and arraign them before a court of competent jurisdiction.
The Nigerian Constitution provides that no suspect can be held in custody for more than 48 hours for any reason. Suspects should either be released on bail or arraigned in court within the stipulated period. ....

Interior Ministry Mindful of Security Situation in Nigeria, Insists Aregbesola

The Minister of Interior, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has said his ministry is mindful of current security situation in the country and understands the need to maintain proper synergy among the security agencies in the country.
The minister, who as part of efforts to improve security agencies’ response to various threats to public peace and safety across the country, on Thursday flagged off an inter-agencies training on Nigeria Internal Security and Public Safety Alert System (NISPSAS).
Aregbesola, while declaring open the training in Abuja, said that the ministry which is charged with the responsibility of ensuring internal security of Nigeria, public safety and citizenship integrity, is mindful of the current security situation of the country, so the need to maintain proper synergy among the security agencies under its watch and others in the country. ....
