Driver fled after pedestrian struck in Kingsville

WINDSOR, ONT.
Provincial police are looking to identify a suspect vehicle after a pedestrian was struck in Kingsville Tuesday night.
Police were called to Highway 3 near County Road 34 around 11:25 p.m. for a collision involving a pedestrian in which the driver fled.
According to police the pedestrian was crossing Highway 3 when they were hit by a westbound vehicle.
The driver fled the area in the vehicle and has not been located.
The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police are asking for the public’s help to locate the suspect vehicle and driver.
The suspect vehicle may have damage to the front right passenger side and possibly be missing the passenger side mirror. ....

WINDSOR, Va. (WWBT) - Citizens of the town of Windsor voiced their concerns in the first town council meeting since a video of a controversial traffic stop was released.
The incident happened back in December 2020, however, the police department has recently made changes in response.
As of Tuesday, one of the Windsor police officers involved in Lt. Caron Nazarioâs traffic stop has been fired.
WVEC reported the town manager confirms Officer Joe Gutierrez was let go on Sunday, four months after the traffic stop, and days after this video sparked national outrage and calls for an investigation by state leaders. ....

WECHU reports 31 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex

WINDSOR, ONT.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has reported 31 new cases of COVID-19 and no additional deaths in the region on Wednesday.
Windsor-Essex has had a total of 14,509 confirmed cases of the virus, including 13,697 people who have recovered.
Here’s the breakdown of new cases:
15 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases
5 cases are community acquired
9 are outbreak related
The death toll related to COVID-19 remains at 409 people.
The health unit says there have been 345 preliminary or confirmed Variant of Concern (VOC) cases identified in the region.
WECHU says there are 403 cases currently considered active. There are 15 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the hospital including five people in the ICU. ....

GECDSB students to return to online learning Tuesday following break

WINDSOR, ONT.
Students within the Greater Essex County District School Board will be headed back to the virtual classroom Tuesday to allow education staff the chance to prepare for the transition.
On Monday, both secondary and elementary teachers will connect with their students to ensure they are ready for Tuesday’s lesson and determine any technical needs and access to resources, the board says. They will then hand out some work for students to complete independently.
The Ontario government ordered all schools in the province to switch to remote learning following the spring break. Currently, there is no specified timeline for if and when students may return to school as usual. ....
