Najib's 1MDB trial to resume next Monday (May 3)

KUALA LUMPUR: The RM2.28bil 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial involving Datuk Seri Najib Razak will resume on Monday (May 3) after a short break to give way to the SRC International Sdn Bhd appeal.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib confirmed that the hearing before High Court judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah will go on for two days next week, May 3 and May 4.
He said former 1MDB CEO Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman, who is the 10th prosecution witness, would continue his testimony on the stand.
The trial was put on hold as Najib's appeal against his conviction and sentence in the SRC International case was being heard at the Court of Appeal beginning April 5.

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has fixed May 31 to hear two discovery applications by Datuk Seri Najib Razak in his bid to obtain 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB)-linked documents involving investment bank Goldman Sachs and Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz.
The former prime minister had filed the first of the two applications on March 24.
That notice of motion was to compel the prosecution in his RM2.28bil 1MDB trial to disclose banking documents linked to Zeti, the former Bank Negara governor, on claims that her family allegedly received monies from fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low.

PUTRAJAYA, April 5 — The Court of Appeal today dismissed Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s application to adjourn his appeal hearing against his conviction and jail sentence for misappropriation of RM42 million SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.
Court of Appeal Judge Datuk Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil in chairing a three-member panel, said there were insufficient grounds to grant such an application after Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah earlier indicated the need for the defence team to be given a one-month adjournment for today’s hearing.

'1MDB issues were never raised'

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s conflict of interest over 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) was never raised in Cabinet meetings despite him chairing discussions involving the sovereign wealth fund, the High Court here has been told.
Former deputy chief secretary to the Cabinet Tan Sri Mazidah Abdul Majid, who was testifying in the 1MDB trial yesterday, agreed to the suggestion by lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah that nobody had voiced out any concern about Najib’s presence in the meetings discussing 1MDB matters.
Shafee had referred the witness to the Code of Ethics for Members of Administration and Members of Parliament where it stated that Cabinet members who have personal interest in matters which are of conflict with government interest, especially if it involves a family member, must leave the meeting and the absence shall be recorded.
