Speaking with Chad from Halfway to Hazard about Local Flood Relief Efforts


We spoke with Chad Warrix from the band Halfway to Hazard on Monday afternoon about local flood relief efforts in east Kentucky.
Chad is visiting his hometown in Breathitt County to assess damage and bring a load of donations before returning to Nashville in the coming days.
Chad encourages people to donate or help in any way possible, whether through a local organization or through the Troy Gentry Foundation which is working to help in the relief.

Martin County Among 12 Communities Selected for More Than $692,000 to Improve Recreational Trails Across Kentucky

 Gov. Andy Beshear has announced his selection of 12 projects totaling $692,058 to receive funding from the Recreational Trails Program (RTP), all of which will upgrade parks and recreational spaces across Kentucky.
Communities selected for funding are Carroll County, Franklin County, Garrard County, Harlan County, Hart County, Henderson County, Martin County, Perry County, Shelby County, Madisonville, Morganfield and Corbin.
“Our parks and outdoor spaces are critically important in our communities and enhance the quality of life for Kentuckians by providing safe, green spaces to exercise and spend time with loved ones,” said Gov. Beshear. “Additionally, as we work to make Kentucky a world-class tourist destination, some of these improvements will attract tourism dollars that will help strengthen our economy to build the better Kentucky we’ve always imagined.

1 New COVID-19 Case in Johnson County on Monday


The Johnson County Health Department reported a new COVID-19 case in the county on Monday.
Monday’s new case brings Johnson County’s total to 1,985 cases of the virus.
Of the 1,985 total cases, 36 are currently active, 1,926 have reportedly recovered and 23 have passed.
The health department reports one Johnson Countian is currently hospitalized with the virus.

Fatal Fire Sunday Morning on Route 201


A Johnson County man has died after a fire early Sunday morning a home along Route 201.
Fire crews with WR Castle Fire & Rescue were dispatched just before 2:30 and found heavy fire in a mobile home just six minutes later.
Crews from the Rockhouse and Flat Gap fire departments were also requested to assist at the scene.
Once crews were able to bring the fire under control, they say they found the body of a male occupant inside the home.
Reports indicate the man was 61-year-old Ralph David Blakeman.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson County Coroner’s Office, and Kentucky State Police also responded.

Christian Appalachian Eastern Kentucky Flooding Disaster Relief Update

Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Disaster Relief is operating a command center to handle requests for flood assistance located at:
485 Ponderosa Drive, Paintsville, Kentucky
Staff and volunteers have been working to assess damage and what repairs are needed. Homeowners can stop by between 9 am and 3 pm to complete paperwork to get assessments and repairs started.
To date, CAP has completed nearly 100 assessments and have several teams on the ground in the communities surrounding Floyd, Johnson, and Rockcastle Counties.
CAP’s Disaster Relief is working with local emergency management staff to coordinate assessment and cleanup teams today. Nearly 30 volunteers from area churches are expected to join CAP work crews on cleanup today.

Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal Collision in Bath Co

According to a news release from the KSP, on Friday, March 5, 2021 Kentucky State Police, Post 8, Morehead was notified of an injury collision on Interstate 64 at the 123 mile marker in Bath Co at approximately 1:14 PM. Post 8 was advised that a commercial vehicle had overturned onto the westbound shoulder. Through the investigation, it was determined that Cartell McLendon, 29 years of age, of Soperton, Georgia was traveling east on I-64 operating a 2018 Kenworth commercial vehicle. Mr. McLendon traveled through the median and both westbound lanes and struck an earth embankment. After striking the embankment, the commercial vehicle overturned coming to rest on the westbound shoulder. Mr. McLendon received fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased by Bath County Coroner Andrew Owens. Kentucky State Police was assisted by Bath Co Sheriff’s Department, Owingsville Police Department, Kentucky State Police Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Bath Co EMS, Bath Co Fire and Rescue and Bath County Coroner’s Office. This investigation remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police, Post 8, Morehead.

KSP Troopers Investigating Deadly Shooting in Perry Co

Troopers with Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 13 are investigating a shooting death in Perry Co. On Friday, Troopers received a call at 9:15 p.m. from the Perry Co Sheriff’s Office asking for assistance. The shooting happened on Middle Drive in the Bulan Community. When Troopers arrived at the house, they found 52-year-old Paul Williams Jr. dead inside with gunshot wounds. Troopers said the Perry Co Coroner’s Office pronounced Williams dead. Troopers added foul play is suspected and the death remains under investigation.
