Brisbane Heat coach Darren Lehmann has fired the first shot in the bid to save the iconic Gabba wicket block which is set to be dug up for the 2032 Olympics.
Queensland's most treasured piece of sporting real estate will be renovated in some form if, as expected, the state gains hosting right to the Games.
The Gabba would host the Games' major ceremonies and athletics meet but the $1 billion renovation could rule it out as a cricket Test host for up to five years.

Brisbane's bid to host the 2032 Olympic Games will have no bearing on the Sunshine Coast's mass transit plans, according to the council.
Options being considered range from bus network upgrades to a quality busy corridor and bus rapid transit, trackless trams and the most controversial being the light rail from Maroochydore to Caloundra.
A planned light rail route connecting the Sunshine Coast has been referenced in council and state government documents for several years, including in a 2019 feasibility study into Queensland's Olympic Games bid.
The study was released by the SEQ Office of Mayors and listed the Sunshine Coast's future light rail network as being critical in delivering the event.

It would provide southeast Queensland an opportunity, for example, to succeed where Sydney and Melbourne have failed - that is, to build infrastructure ahead of the population curve. With an estimated two million more people expected to live in SEQ by 2050, we're going to need better roads, rail, and much more.
It must be the right infrastructure, though. No one wants white elephants, and so anyone eyeing off a special project for the purpose of hosting the Games alone, can forget about it.

Australia Chosen as Preferred Candidate for 2032 Olympics
Brisbanehas been chosen as the preferred candidate by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the 2032 Olympic Games.
The IOC will start exclusive negotiations, or the “targeted dialogue” stage, with Australian officials over hosting the games following the Future Host Summer Commission’s recommendation.
Chair of the commission, Kristin Kloster Aasen, advised on Wednesday that the Queensland government only needed to submit the documents and the required guarantees before the commission was able to formally recommend Brisbane as the 2032 Olympic host.
Although Aasen said that the bid was not the winner just yet, the plan proposed by Brisbane, Australia’s high level of hosting experience and strong support for the bid from government officials were the main reasons for the committee’s recommendation.
