to lose tonight is my old colleague in congress, ron desantis. governor desantis won florida in a mandate. he had a wide swathe of voters that gave him an electoral landslide for re—election. and instead of being the governing governor and maybe taking the lane that nikki haley has taken from him and combining that with those who supported him that were pro—trump but didn't want trump, he could have been in a virtual tie with the president right now based on polling. but instead, he chose a path that ted cruz chose — and lost. sorry, congressman. a reminder to our international audience — ron desantis has spent $35 million campaigning. when you put that in perspective with other elections around the world, it's always so interesting that even a caucus — nikki haley spent something like the same, so $70 million between it the two of them. donald trump has only spent $11 million in iowa. bud donald trump has only spent $11 million in iowa.— million in iowa. and ron desantis _ million in iowa. and ron desantis - _ million in iowa. and ron desantis - go _ million in iowa. and ron

together, and next up is new hampshire, where the president has had to mount a write-in campaign because he's not on the ballot, and he's facing a far off but challenger nonetheless, congressman deen phillips. are there any concerns about how the write-in campaign is going as nikki haley shows signs of life that could draw independents and maybe even demo democrats into the republican primary instead? >> well, listen, this campaign has made clear we're going to follow the rules put in place by the democratic national committee. that means south carolina holds the democratic primary. we're happy to campaign there. if you want to talk about the enthusiasm for the democratic base, look no further than the fundraising announcement. we raised $97 million in the fourth quarter, that's $235 million since the launch of this campaign. largely driven by grass roots donations, about 97% of the contributions that we got in the fourth quarter were under $200.

tonight, finally voters voting, and if donald trump puts up the win we think, then a trump nomination becomes that much more of a reality. we take one step closer to that binary choice, trump/biden, and that's when the biden team has always believed that people will come home. they'll vote for him because they don't want to go down the donald trump way. we should also mention a little news this morning. the biden campaign team's strategy has always been to start ramping up events this year because they spent last year raising money. they put out news this morning that they raised more than $97 million. the re-election team and the dnc raised more than $97 million in the final three months of last year, which includes $235 million from its launch in april. they finish the year with $117 million in cash on hand, which is the most any democrat has ever had at this point in an election cycle. this is going to be extraordinarily expenive campaign. democratic aides say to me that they think it is going to be about $2 billion. they're going to need a lot more than this, but this is a

if you look at the money here, it is astounding how much money desantis and nikki haley have spent, around $35 million all in. so $70 million. and trump has spent $11 million. and they have not really moved the needle. and i think that the he have vote is another thing to look at carefully. he put out a video last week that really offended a lot of evangelical leaders because it was a video that basically said that trump is god-like. and there were some leaders in the state that said that made them uncomfortable. but those he have leaders may have the same problem that union leaders have sometimes. that is, they may feel one way, but the flock may vote another. >> it is such an important point. the whole question of whether endorsements even matter is going to probably be one we're discussing later given ron desantis has had a lot of them. let's bring in vaughn hillyard

i would again caution people, don't take these polls i would again caution people, take these polls with a grain of salt. please don't put too much stock in them. but looking at desantis, for example, there's really no other candidate who has as much as stake as he does here. he's visited all 99 of iowa's counties, a political feat that's known as the full grassley after the state senator. and he and his allied groups have spent more than $35 million on advertising in the state. so he's, again, somebody who tonight is so big for him because he's also gotten the endorsement of the iowa governor, kim reynolds, as well as bob vander plaats, a very influential iowa evangelical leader. and then there's again, nikki haley, who, unlike desantis, iowa hasn't really been central to her campaign strategy and she hasn't spent much time in the state. she's chosen to focus on new hampshire, which comes next, where a lot of polls have shown her within striking distance. but let's not forget two other names which are still in the race, and that's vivek ramaswamy, the businessman, and asa hutchinson, the former governor of arkansas.
