IFFI Spotlight: The festival concludes amid celebration and nostalgia
The last film screened at the festival was Director Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Japanese film ‘Wife of A Spy’. The 51st IFFI paid homage to 18 film personalities including Irrfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Soumitra Chatterjee, Sushant Singh Rajput and Basu Chatterjee.

The 51
st edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) concluded amid fanfare, felicitations and cultural performances. The nine-day festival, founded in 1952, saw participation from the who’s who of the world of cinema. The first-ever hybrid IFFI, incorporating physical and virtual screenings and sessions, recognised cinematic works from across the globe. Even the NFDC Film Bazaar was held in a hybrid format.

In about 37 minutes, the Malayalam short film,
Oru Paathiraa Swapnam Pole (
Like a Midnight Dream in English), makes its audience introspect about the idea of personal space in relationships. The film, written and directed by Sharan Venugopal, was recently screened in the Indian Panorama Section at the 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa. “I was always intrigued by the idea of personal space. When I thought of doing a movie, I decided to explore this subject,” says the 28-year-old filmmaker who is based in Thiruvananthapuram.

These are the words of John Mathew Matthan, Chairperson of IFFI 51 Indian Panorama Jury and National Film Award-winning film writer, producer and director. He was conversing with film journalist Faridoon Shahryar during a virtual In-Conversation Session titled “DO YOU HAVE IT?”, held as part of the virtual offering of 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI), being held in Goa.
Shri Matthan has won the National Film Award for the film
Sarfarosh (1999), which he directed and produced and for which he wrote the story-screenplay as well. Speaking about this film, the maker of more than 200 films said: “Songs have a purpose in movies. At the time when this movie was made, music was a big component in terms of revenue. I did not like the idea of having two romantic songs in the film”.

IFFI is being held in a hybrid mode because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event will be attended by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar.
Panaji: The 51st edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is set to start in Goa on Saturday. Bangladesh will be the country in focus and the festival will pay tribute to legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray.
The opening ceremony will be held at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium at Panaji in Goa.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said in a statement that for the first time, IFFI is being held in a hybrid mode because of the COVID-19 pandemic."Hence, festival delegates will have the option to participate and watch films and other events virtually, sitting in the comforts of their homes.

In Our World, a documentary by award-winning filmmaker Shreedhar B.S. will premiere at the 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on January 18. Produced by Mr. Shreedhar’s Shred Creative Lab Private Ltd, the film highlights autism spectrum disorder (ASD) through the lives of three children.
The 51-minute documentary, without any voice-overs, has made an attempt to unpack the world of the autistic children, their families and bring about a nuanced understanding of ASD. The film includes candid interviews of parents and therapists; their day-to-day activities like swimming classes, horse-riding and music lessons; and their special moments with parents.
