ZAMBOANGA CITY - Eight suspects, including a member of a drug syndicate, were arrested and some PHP1.2 million worth of illegal drugs and a firearm were seized in separate anti-drug operations during the week within the jurisdiction of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao (APC-WM). The biggest drug haul involved the confiscation of some PHP850,000 worth of suspected shabu and the arrest of two of the eight suspects last Monday in Lanao del Sur province. Col. Richard Verceles, operations chief of APC-WM, said Fahad Pangcatan, 21, and Mohammad Aragasi, 20, were arrested by policemen in a checkpoint operation around 9:30 p.m. Monday in Barangay Bato-Bato, Maguing town, Lanao del Sur. In a televised interview on CNN Monday, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson Commodore Armando Balilo said search and rescue operations are ongoing and will continue until all missing individuals are accounted for. He said the PCG is joined in the operations by the Philippine Air Force and the Philippine Navy.
