Man Claimed to be Wu-Tang and Receive Eight Years in Prison

The man is named Walker Washington and he pleads guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and will serve over 100 months in prison. Washington will also have to pay $300,000 to 19 businesses that were impacted by his scheme. After his release, he will have to serve three years of supervised release.
A co-defendant, Aaron Barnes-Burpo of Florida, received seven years after pleading guilty to the same charge and also must pay $300,000 in restitution to the businesses.

“These two flim-flam artists and their phony entourage lived large for several weeks by scamming hospitality providers,” David H. Estes, acting U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Georgia said. “We commend the skeptical hotel clerk who saw through the scam and alerted law enforcement, bringing this scheme to a halt.”

Two Wu-Tang Clan imposters, Walker Washington and Aaron Barnes-Burpo have just been sentenced to prison for conducting fraudulent activities that mostly involved the use of stolen credit cards.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Walker Washington, aged 53 from Augusta, Georgia, will be serving 100 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud — supervised for three years after his release. He will also be paying roughly $300,000 USD to the 19 businesses he scammed. Barnes-Burpo, 29, from Crestview, Florida, who plead guilty to the same charges has been sentenced to seven years and will also be paying $300,000 USD in damages.

WRDW is reporting that Walker Washington has just been sentenced to eight years in prison for defrauding 19 businesses out of hospitality services by claiming to be a member of the iconic Hip-Hop group, Wu-Tang Clan. Over the weekend U.S. District Court Judge Dudley H. Bowen ordered the 53-year-old Augustan to serve 100 months in the bing after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and instructed him to pay $300K to the businesses he swindled during his crime spree.
Once he’s served his time, Washington will be under supervised released for an addition three years for his transgressions.

Walker Washington was sentenced to eight years in prison by a federal judge this past Thursday. The 100-month sentence also includes Washington being ordered to pay $299,900 in restitution.
News of this comes almost two years later, after Washington and another man named Aaron Barnes-Burpo used stolen credit card information to book hotels and rent cars while claiming they had ties to Roc Nation and Wu-Tang Clan.
U.S. Attorney David Estes issued a statement on the matter, saying, “These two flim-flam artists and their phony entourage lived large for several weeks by scamming hospitality providers. We commend the skeptical hotel clerk who saw through the scam and alerted law enforcement, bringing this scheme to a halt.”

Washington’s partner in crime, Aaron Barnes-Burpo, 29, of Crestview, Florida, had already been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to the same charges and having to pay almost 300,000 in restitution. The scheme went on for two months in 2019.

A Georgia man who scammed hotel rooms and luxury limos by claiming to be with the Wu-Tang Clan has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison.
Walker Washington, 53, was sentenced by a federal judge Thursday, and in addition to the 100 months, he was ordered to pay almost $299,900 in restitution, according to court documents.
The scheme by Washington and Aaron Barnes-Burpo, 29, went on for at least two months in 2019.
During that time, the men falsely said they were affiliated with Roc Nation and the Wu-Tang Clan, the famed rap group known for many hits including "C.R.E.A.M.," and " Protect Ya Neck," prosecutors said.

DETROIT — Now that’s a whopper — a very old whopper! A 240-pound sturgeon that could be more than 100 years old was caught last week in the Detroit River by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The “real life river monster” was nearly 7 feet long, the agency said Friday on Facebook, where the photo was shared more than 24,000 times by late afternoon. “Based on its girth and size, it is assumed to be a female and that she has been roaming our waters over 100 years. She was quickly released back into the river” after being weighed and measured, the Fish and Wildlife Service said. The typical lifespan is 55 years for a male sturgeon and 70 to 100 years for females, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. This fish was caught on April 22 near Grosse Ile, south of Detroit, while a three-person crew was conducting an annual sturgeon study. Frozen round goby, a tasty snack for a sturgeon, was used as bait on a long line that was deep in the river. It took about six minutes to get the fish into the boat with a net. “I felt the fish thumping on the line. As it got closer, it just got bigger and bigger,” said Jason Fischer, who was with fellow biologists Paige Wigren and Jennifer Johnson. Wigren recalled thinking, “Yep, this is going to be a real good fish story.” “She was tired out and didn’t fight us very much,” Wigren said. “Imagine everything that fish has lived through and seen.” Lake sturgeon are listed as a threatened species in Michigan. Anglers can keep one a year, but only if the fish is a certain size and is caught in a few state waters. All sturgeon caught in the Detroit River must be released.

Barnes-Burpo and Washington admitted that they falsely claimed to be affiliated with the Roc Nation production company and the Wu-Tang Clan and used fraudulent and stolen credit cards to rent limousines, defraud hotels, caterers and production studios in multiple cities as early as September 2019, prosecutors said.

Wu-Tang Clan Scammer Hit With $300K Fine & Prison Time

Walker Washington isn’t the only scam artist to be incarcerated for the crude plot — which was blown up in November of 2019 when Fairfield Inn and Suites staff reported Washington and his 29-year-old co-defendant, Aaron Barnes-Burpo, to the FBI and Richmond County Sheriff’s Office after they tried to rent 10 rooms at the Augusta location.
The pair began impersonating members of Wu-Tang Clan and JAY-Z’s production company Roc Nation as early as September of 2019.
Throughout their fraudlent crime spree Barnes-Burpo allegedly recruited two homeless men from Atlanta to pose as their body guard’s, as they managed to run up outstanding tabs with multiple businesses including two Atlanta lodging properties, The Georgian Terrace Hotel and Hyatt Regency, worth $45,000 and $39,000 respectively, and a Rolls Royce rental valued at over $60,000, among countless other finesses.
