‘It makes me feel better’ 12-year-old says as Bay City supports his homecoming after heart transplant

BAY CITY, MI - Sirens began blaring as ambulances, police vehicles, fire trucks and more drove down the road to Aaron Bovia’s home to welcome him back. Aaron, 12, arrived in a Michigan State Police vehicle and waved to those who participated in the welcome home drive-by celebration Wednesday, April 21.
Aaron underwent a heart transplant earlier this month due to being diagnosed with a rare condition called Tetralogy of Fallot at birth. Even though Aaron had visited the hospital regularly for procedures stemming from his heart issues, his father Earl Bovia said it wasn’t on their radar he would need a heart transplant.

BAY CITY, MI-Just 12 years old, Aaron Bovia of Bay City recently underwent a heart transplant. He’s now recovering, with the help and support of many members of this tight-knit Michigan community.
“It’s been quite a whirlwind, because it really wasn’t expected,” said Earl Bovia, Aaron’s father. “Well, it was and it wasn’t.” He explained that while Aaron has had heart issues since he was born, a complete heart transplant wasn’t on their radar. “It just got dropped on us one day.”
