Two men were found guilty by a UK court Monday for their role in an illegal people-smuggling operation that left 39 migrants dead.
Romanian mechanic Gheorghe Nica, 43, and Northern Irish truck driver Eamonn Harrison, 24, were convicted of 39 counts of manslaughter, as well as conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration, the Crown Prosecution Service announced.
The victims, all Vietnam nationals aged between 15 and 44, were found dead on Oct. 22, 2019 in the back of Harrison’s air-tight truck container, where they had been held for almost 12 hours, according to officials.
