CHANDIGARH: Abhay Singh Chautala of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) resigned as a Haryana legislator on Wednesday in solidarity with the protesting farmers, becoming the first politician to do so. The MLA from Sirsa district’s Ellenabad seat and younger son of former CM Om Prakash Chautala submitted his resignation to assembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta, who confirmed accepting it. This will force yet another by-election, after Baroda last November. Asked if he would re-contest, Abhay said he would consult the people of Ellenabad but this resignation was against the Centre’s three agri-marketing laws and against BJP’s registering “false cases” against the protesting farmers.
INLD MLA Abhay Singh Chautala is expected to tender his resignation to the Speaker of the Haryana assembly on Wednesday in view of an announcement made by him earlier. Abhay, who represents Ellenabad assembly seat, had recently announced he would quit the state assembly if the Centre failed to resolve by Tuesday the ongoing standoff with farmers protesting against the central agri-marketing. INLD general secretary R S Chaudhary said the party would be holding its state executive body on January 27 and, after addressing the meeting, Abhay was expected to submit his resignation to the speaker. After 'Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani', I never thought that 'Madhubala: Ek Ishq Ek Junoon' would become such a big show, and after 'Madhubala...', my next release 'Shakti: Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki' would also become such a big show. I just went with the flow," Vivian told IANS.
