Like most movie genres, science fiction goes back almost as far as the medium itself, all the way to 1902 to be exact. That was when Georges Méliès—an innovative genius of many talents—unleashed his 14-minute masterwork: "Le voyage dans la lune," better known to American audiences as "A Trip to the Moon." Inspired by the written works of Jules Verne, among other things, and laced with satirical jabs toward the scientific community, the surrealist short follows a group of astronomers as they embark on a trip to the moon. While not scientifically accurate by any means—the astronomers do travel by way of cannon shot, after all—the film did kick off a cinematic trend of depicting hypothetical ideas in anticipation of future realities.

Zombieland VR Game Coming To Oculus Rift, Quest, Vive, And PSVR
Zombieland: Headshot Fever's devs are aiming to deliver high-octane gameplay that will require precision aiming and split-second decisions.
Sony Pictures and XR Games have announced a new virtual reality game based on the Zombieland movies. Called Zombieland VR: Headshot Fever, the upcoming VR game will launch for Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality headsets in Spring 2021. The game will be released later for PlayStation VR.
"With this VR game, we're bringing the zombie apocalypse right to you in a totally new way while preserving the humor and wit of the hit movie franchise," Sony Pictures Entertainment SVP Jake Zim said. "Now Zombieland fans can feel what it's like to stare down an onslaught of Zombie hordes and make split-second gameplay decisions in order to blast their way to survival."

Zombieland star Abigail Breslin's father, Michael, has died from COVID-19. The actress shared the sad news on social media in a heartfelt post alongside a series of photos of her father on Instagram. Breslin first shared that her father had tested positive for the disease on February 10th, writing at that time he had been put on a ventilator and then later followed up on Valentine's Day thanking fans for their well-wishes for her and her family.
"Oh wow. Hard to write this. Harder than I thought. I'm in shock and devastation," Breslin wrote in her post marking her father's passing. "At 6:32 PM EST, my sweet, perfect, amazing, heroic, wonderful dada passed away after my family and I said goodbye. It was COVID-19 that cut my daddy's life too short."

Abigail Breslin is mourning the loss of her dad after losing him to COVID-19.
On Friday (Feb. 26), Breslin's father, Michael, passed away following a battle with COVID-19. Taking to Instagram the same night to mourn his death, Breslin posted a heartfelt caption about her late father alongside photos of them together.
"My daddy... Oh wow. Hard to write this. Harder than I thought. I'm in shock and devastation," the 24-year-old actress wrote. "At 6:32 PM EST, my sweet, perfect, amazing, heroic, wonderful dada passed away after my family and I said goodbye."
She then revealed the the cause of his passing: "It was COVID-19 that cut my sweet daddy's life too short."

In a previous Instagram post on February 10, Breslin said her father had tested positive for coronavirus and had been placed on a ventilator.
In her post on Saturday, Breslin said she wanted to remember her father “for who he was” and that he loved life, his family and the simple things.
She added: “My dad was a hilarious, boisterous, tenacious, rebellious, intelligent, sweet, incredible human being. He loved life. He loved his family. He loved the simple things…
“He loved a cup of coffee(black, heated up for 66 seconds). He Loved a good Knish (but only in the winter). He loved BBQ’ing (and while we loved brown mustard he only wanted French’s Yellow).
