NORWALK — The city is set to fund $7.5 million, paid in installments for the next three years, for utilities work associated with the Walk Bridge reconstruction project.
The Common Council Public Works Committee approved the expense during a virtual meeting last week. The full council is set to vote on the issue at its Tuesday meeting
While construction of the bridge and much of the project’s cost will be conducted by the state Department of Transportation, the city will pay for various services including roadway sweeping and some engineering and underground utility construction, according to the agreement documents.

NORWALK — The city plans to expand its partnership with local health care providers and offer more clinics, as the eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccines grows to residents 55 and older starting Monday.
Officials are preparing for the expansion of eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine to Connecticut residents 55 and older. The expansion, announced by Gov. Ned Lamont on Monday, goes into effect on March 1.
To date, the Norwalk Health Department has administered more than 3,100 vaccine doses, city spokesperson Josh Morgan said. About 12 percent of Norwalk residents have received at least the first dose of the vaccine, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.

NORWALK — Typically on the holy day Ash Wednesday, Christians receive a cross on their forehead marked in ash by a priest’s or reverend’s thumb. This year, they’ll feel a cotton swab graze their faces instead.
In a world filled with coronavirus pandemic firsts, local parishes are finding new ways to celebrate the holy day while remaining socially distant.

Norwalk Hospital gets $2.7M in COVID-19 relief funding

NORWALK — Norwalk Hospital recently received $2.7 million in COVID-19 relief funding from Gov. Ned Lamont’s office.
The funds will be administered once the hospital provides proof of financial expenses incurred from COVID-19 treatment and prevention, according to a statement from the governor’s office.
Last week, the governor’s office administered a total of $40 million to non-governmental, short-term general hospitals based on certian requirements of facilities treating COVID-19 patients, according to the statement. Of the $40 million distributed to 25 hospitals around the state, Norwalk Hospital received $2.7 million.
“This funding recognizes the frontline role Connecticut’s hospitals and their dedicated employees have played throughout this pandemic,” Lamont said. “Our hospitals have needed to adapt to new protocols and infection control measures, while also ceasing elective procedures during the crest of the first wave of COVID-19, which had the effect of increasing costs and decreasing revenues, not to mention the physical, mental, and emotional toll this pandemic has taken on their staff.”
