Jeweller to the stars: Floyd Mayweather, Eden Hazard, Young Adz and Tinie Tempah
Today, one of the most in-demand bespoke jewellers and watch customisers, 32-year-old, Iranian-born Abtin Abbasi came to the UK in 1989, spending his childhood in a small flat above a pizza takeaway in Neasden. A budding entrepreneur in the school playground, by the age of 18 he traded his first wristwatch and, a few hundred deals later, he arrived at his current position in his grail location: Hatton Garden. Abassi’s clients include Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Euros hero Bukayo Saka, Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard, boxing billionaire and watch collector Floyd Mayweather and a band of rapper royalty stretching from Aitch to Wizkid.

Meet the go-to jeweller for AJ Tracey, Aubameyang and Krept & Konan

On 8 November last year, the West London rapper AJ Tracey was playing the first of two headline shows at Alexandra Palace. Halfway through his set, after playing “Necklace” (lyrics: “I put a whip on my neck / I put a whip on my necklace”), he paused. A man in tinted glasses, skinny jeans and a dark T-shirt jogged nervously onto the stage. Around his neck was a massive diamond chain with a glittering rectangular pendant hanging off it. “All right, listen up,” Tracey announced. “This is my jeweller. He’s got something new for me.” The man took the chain off and held it up to screams from the 10,000 people in the crowd. Then he fastened it round Tracey’s neck. “You know what that says on the front?” asked the rapper. “It says ‘Ladbroke Grove’ on it.” The crowd screamed again, a glowing mass of iPhones recording the moment for posterity. Tracey gave the man a hug, sent him off to the side of the stage, then launched into “Fashion Week”.
