"Levels and Correlates of Objectively Measured Sedentary Behavior in Yo" by Katharina E. Kariippanon, Kar A.R.H.A.U. Chong et al.

Purpose There is a paucity of global data on sedentary behavior during early childhood. The purpose of this study was to examine how device-measured sedentary behavior in young children differed across geographically, economically, and sociodemographically diverse populations, in an international sample. Methods This multinational, cross-sectional study included data from 1071 children 3-5 yr old from 19 countries, collected between 2018 and 2020 (pre-COVID). Sedentary behavior was measured for three consecutive days using activPAL accelerometers. Sedentary time, sedentary fragmentation, and s...

"The impact of covid‐19 on preschool‐aged children's movement behaviors" by Johan Y.Y. Ng, Qing He et al. - Vimarsana News

"The impact of covid‐19 on preschool‐aged children's movement behaviors" by Johan Y.Y. Ng, Qing He et al.

During the COVID‐19 pandemic, many preschool‐aged children were forced to remain indoors due to social distancing measures and school closures. In this study, we examined how children’s movement behaviors (sedentary behaviors, physical activity, and sleep) were affected by the pandemic. Children’s (N = 25, age = 4.4 years, SD = 0.3) movement behaviors were measured before and after the COVID outbreak, respectively. Data collected using accelerometers were analyzed using compositional data analyses. A significant change in the overall time‐use composition (F = 5.89, p = 0.002) was fou...

"Objectively Measured Sedentary Levels and Bouts by Day Type in Austral" by Joaõ R. Pereira, Dylan P. Cliff et al. - Vimarsana News

"Objectively Measured Sedentary Levels and Bouts by Day Type in Austral" by Joaõ R. Pereira, Dylan P. Cliff et al.

Abstract This study aimed to understand whether a higher number of sedentary bouts (SED bouts) and higher levels of sedentary time (SED time) occur according to different day types (childcare days, nonchildcare weekdays, and weekends) in Australian toddlers (1-2.99 y) and preschoolers (3-5.99 y). Methods: The SED time and bouts were assessed using ActiGraph GT3X+ accelerometers. The sample was composed of 264 toddlers and 343 preschoolers. The SED bouts and time differences were calculated using linear mixed models. Results: The toddlers' percentage of SED time was higher on nonchildcare days...

"Associations between South African preschoolers' routine physical acti" by Cook Cj, Howard Sj et al. - Vimarsana News

"Associations between South African preschoolers' routine physical acti" by Cook Cj, Howard Sj et al.

Physical activity (PA) is an essential health behaviour with a wide range of benefits, including the potential for a beneficial association with self-regulation and psychosocial well-being. However, evidence for this relationship remains scarce in the preschool age-group and in low-income countries. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the relationship between self-regulation and psychosocial well-being on the one hand and objectively measured, free-living PA in 119 preschool children (M = 50.7 months, SD = 8.4) on the other from low-income settings in South Africa. PA was objectively measu...
