Yaphet Kotto, Distinguished Actor Who Played Beloved Bond Villain, Dies at 81


Yaphet Kotto — the Black actor who portrayed one of the most beloved James Bond villains — has died at the age of 81. Kotto’s wife, Tessie Sinahon, first announced his death in a loving Facebook post that was shared to his public page on Monday, March 15.
“I’m saddened and still in shocked of the passing of my husband Yaphet of 24 years. He died last night around 10:30pm Philippine time,” Sinahon wrote, noting the actor still had a lot of plans, including offers for movie roles with Tom Cruise, in the G.I. Joe Franchise and more. She went on to praise her life partner.

The actor’s wife, Tessie Sinahon, announced his death on Facebook, and Kotto’s agent confirmed the news to 
Variety. His cause of death was not immediately available.
“You played a villain on some of your movies, but for me you’re a real hero and to a lot of people also,” Sinahon wrote. “A good man, a good father, a good husband and a decent human being, very rare to find.”
Kotto was reportedly born in New York City on Nov. 15, 1939, and started studying acting at age 16 at the Actors Mobile Theater Studio. He made his theatrical debut in a performance of

Yaphet Kotto, the actor known for his role in "Alien" and as James Bond villain Mr. Big in "Live and Let Die," has died at age 81, his wife announced on Facebook. "He died last night around 10:30pm Philippine time. This is a very painful moment for me to inform you all fans, friends and family of my husband," Tessie Sinahon wrote.
It's unclear what caused Kotto's death.
He was born in New York City in 1939 and, by age 16, was studying at Actors Mobile Theater Studio. He made his stage debut at age 19 in "Othello."

LOS ANGELES — Yaphet Kotto, an actor known for his performances in “Alien,” the James Bond film “Live and Let Die” and the television series “Homicide: Life on the Street,” has died, his agent Ryan Goldhar confirmed to Variety. He was 81.

Yaphet Kotto, the first Black James Bond villan, has died. He starred in the 1973 Bond flick "Live and Let Die". Kotto also known for his spectacular role in "Alien" passed away at 81 years old.
Kotto was born in New York City in 1939 and kicked off his acting career at age 16 at the Actors Mobile Theater Studio. He is survived by his wife and six children. RIP Mr. Kotto. You will be sorely missed.

The actor’s wife, Tessie Sinahon, issued a statement on Facebook Monday night announcing news of his passing. She did comment on a cause of death. 
"I'm saddened and still in shocked of the passing of my husband Yaphet of 24 years.  He died last night around 10:30pm Philippine time," she wrote. "This is a very painfall [sic] moment for me to inform you all fans, friends and family of my husband."
