The player in question isn't even around -- he's off playing games in Arkansas, Ohio, Kentucky and shortly his home state of Texas -- yet he's discussed daily in Arizona. One would imagine
PTI-style debate shows around the Minor League facility, or if we let the imagination run a little more wild, giant legislative bodies like the Roman Senate or the entire House of Parliament gathered to debate one question and one question only.
"Should Junior be at Double-A or Triple-A?" asks Royals assistant general manager of player personnel J.J. Picollo. "It's maybe the biggest question we need to answer before we start assignments next week."

Each team's prospect to watch in spring

Teams began to open Spring Training camps on Wednesday, the first on-field step toward the launching of the 2021 season. While the initial focus will be on new faces in new places -- Nolan Arenado with the Cardinals, Francisco Lindor with the Mets, Yu Darvish and Blake Snell with the Padres -- there also are plenty of intriguing storylines with non-roster invitees.
Below, we spotlight an interesting prospect in big league camp, selecting only from each team's list of non-roster invitees, with each club. Several of them could make an impact on the coming season.

There are so many Minor Leaguers to look forward to seeing play in a competitive environment again after the lost 2020 season, but that is especially true of Groshans. The No. 46 overall prospect last played in a Minor League game on May 13, 2019 before a foot injury ended what was meant to be his first full season. Though he was a full participant at last year’s alternate training site, Grapefruit League at-bats will give the public a better idea of the progress on his above-average offensive tools. Royals Rumblings - News for February 8, 2021
Left-handed utility man Brad Miller (.895 OPS with the Cardinals in 2020) is still on the free-agent market, as is outfielder Matt Joyce (.351 OBP with the Marlins in ’20). Right fielder Nomar Mazara struggled last season, but he has shown power numbers in the past, including 20-home-run seasons from 2016-18. If Whit Merrifield moves to left field and the Royals are confident they can tap into the talent Mazara has showed before, he could be a good fit with Kansas City for ‘21.
The price tag was an excellent value signing who offers above-average defense and a quality bat versus left=handed pitching. The signing at that value makes for a suitable replacement for Maikel Franco, who put up a .830 OPS vs. lefties while offering less defensive value than Alberto is likely to provide. At the low price of around $2m, this is a fine acquisition for a team trying to keep payroll low, looking to move a player at the break without taking on a long-term commitment.

Each team's best non-Top 100 prospect

It’s been nearly a week since MLB Pipeline unveiled its Top 100 Prospects for 2021, and in that time our Pipeline team has already answered many of your questions about the players who made the list.
But the very act of having to rank a finite number of prospects means that we also were forced to make some difficult omissions. And for some fans, finding out which players came close to making the Top 100 can be as interesting as the list itself.
With that in mind, MLB Pipeline has compiled a list of each team’s top prospect who didn’t make the 2021 Top 100. It also serves as a preview for the team Top 30 lists that we’ll be rolling out in March, with each player representing the next-highest-ranked prospect in their respective organization.
