President Sassou Nguesso calls for unique African voice on climate change | United Nations Economic Commission for Africa

Brazzaville, 4 March 2021 (ECA) – The President of the Republic of Congo – Denis Sassou Nguesso, in his capacity as Chair of the Congo Basin Climate Commission (CBCC) and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) – Vera Songwe, met on Wednesday in Brazzaville to discuss Africa’s position ahead of Cop26.
The President asked ECA’s Executive Secretary to work with him to build a common African position on pertinent issues pertaining to the continent in the lead-up to the 26
th Conference of Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, slated for Glasgow in the United Kingdom in November 2021.

BRAZZAVILLE, March 2 (Xinhua) -- The UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) has announced the imminent creation of an African Artificial Intelligence Research Centre in the Republic of the Congo.
"It will be the first initiative of this kind on the African continent. This Centre will not only develop artificial intelligence in the country, but also at the level of Africa and also help to tackle some ethical issues around AI," according to a statement of the ECA issued on Monday, quoting Mactar Seck, ECA's key player in the design of the project within the Technology, Climate and Natural Resources Division.

Brazzaville/Addis Ababa, 25 February 2021 (ECA) – Africa could expand its economy by a staggering $1.5 trillion dollars, by capturing just 10% of the speedily growing artificial intelligence (AI) market, set to reach $15.7 trillion by 2030.
Vera Songwe, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), made the argument Thursday.
She was addressing several ministers and other participants at the third Africa Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Forum (ARSTI2021), through the Director of the Technology, Climate Change and Natural Resource Development Division of ECA, Jean Paul Adam.
“AI growth can help in creating additional high value and decent jobs, diminish poverty, increase the productivity of firms, preserve the environment and foster better living conditions,” she added.

Brazzaville, 24 February 2021 (ECA) - Over 200 pupils and students from across Africa say artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics are opening up an exciting vista for their dream careers in innovation.
This, thanks to a bootcamp organised by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Congo, UNESCO, the African Materials Research Society (AMRS) and the African Biomedical Engineering Consortium (ABEC).
The four-day bootcamp, which began on 23 February 2021, is organized in a hybrid format; with the majority of trainees attending at the Marien Ngouabi University in Brazzaville, Congo, and other joining virtually.
