Listen: Aksel Kankaanranta "Hurt" (Finland's UMK 2021)

Aksel Kankaanranta is trying his luck again with
“Hurt”.
Finnish broadcaster YLE is sticking to last year’s formula, although expanded: this year there will be seven acts competing rather than six. Their songs will be revealed one by one every weeknight at midnight Finland time (23:00 CET) until 21 January.
Aksel “Hurt” (UMK 2021)
The reigning champion of UMK is back with “Hurt”, a “powerful yet sensitive ballad about how looks can be deceiving”.
“Someone may look like they’re ok on the outside, but they could still be in terrible pain on the inside. When you’re hurting, you also end up hurting the ones you love. I’ve lived that experience, so I’m truly able to identify with this message. My song is also a reminder that you don’t need to be anyone but yourself”, he explains.

Vision Music Awards 2020: Iceland’s Daði & Gagnamagnið win Best Staging Concept

As all Eurovision fans know, the “
vision” part of the contest is almost as important as the song itself. With a plethora of lights, effects and pyrotechnics at their disposal, every country dreams of an iconic staging moment that will make the public pick up their phones and impress the juries. In short, the staging can make or break a song.
For Eurovision 2020 of course, those dreams were dashed. All we were left with were staging blueprints, and winks towards staging ambitions from music videos and national selection performances. The thought of what might have been never rang truer, as we were promised some incredible performances.

Vision Music Awards 2020: Bulgaria's VICTORIA wins Best Interior Design

Eurovision wouldn’t be Eurovision without the gorgeous staging to match the music. It’s sad that the 41 fantastic songs of Eurovision 2020 didn’t get the justice of presentation on the big stage. It didn’t mean they didn’t get their moment in the spotlight, however, as they were all performed in the comfortable homes of the Eurovision stars. It’s not common that we get to see the places where our musicians live and work, and it is certainly worthy of merit. There’s nothing more special than the space a musician makes their magic happen!
As such, as part of the

Vision Music Awards 2020: Bulgaria's VICTORIA wins Best Quarantine Couture

While last year’s Eurovision season didn’t have the big stage and bright lights, it still had its usual fashion pageant. Maybe not the mixture of dazzling and disastrous we’re used to, but fashion nonetheless. There’s something extremely charming about seeing our Eurovision stars in their favourite home clothes.
To honour this year’s cosy parade, we asked you to vote for the act you thought showed off the
Best Quarantine Couture as part of our 2020
While our time in lockdown might have had less ballgowns and more dressing gowns, our Eurovision stars still sported some memorable looks. Gjon’s Tears showed off his set of collared shirts. Ulrikke brought the plaid and cowgirl vibe. Past Eurovision stars Slavko Kalezic and Maruv also sported memorable looks for their lockdown performances.

The
Teflon Brothers have kept the party going in Finland for well over a decade, and now they want to bring their message of love to all of Europe! The cherry to their wild and sweet disco sundae is the Swedish sensation and Eurodance pioneer
Pandora.
The idea for
I Love You and participating in the Contest for New Music UMK have been long in the making. The seeds for the collaboration between the Teflon Brothers and Pandora were planted four years ago, in a chance backstage meeting.
– We’re the Teflon Brothers, and we represent the people of Finland. And what better way to represent your audience than by being crowned the official representative of Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest?”

UMK 2021: Finland will reveal the 7 finalists on January 13

Seven acts will compete at Finland’s upcoming Eurovision national final
UMK 2021. And today broadcaster YLE confirmed that they’ll make the big reveal of the artists on
Wednesday, January 13 at 13:00 local time. Because of ongoing pandemic concerns, there won’t be a glitzy meet and greet as in recent years. Instead, YLE will release a video that reveals the identity of the seven finalists.
As in recent years, the winner will ultimately be decided by a mix of public voting and an international jury.
The number of competing acts was whittled down from 278 entries. And while fans will have to wait until January to find out exactly who is competing, YLE promises a versatile lineup.
