OAN, One America News, Is Coming to Florida

The right-wing One America News Network is best known for fawning over former President Donald Trump, promoting conspiracy theories of all kinds, and spreading outright lies.
The 2020 presidential election? That was rigged, according to the fake news outlet to end all fake news outlets. The elderly protester who was knocked down and bloodied by Brooklyn police during a George Floyd protest? He was an antifa plant trying to disrupt legitimate police business. Chemical attacks by Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad's regime on his own citizenry? Couldn't have happened — everyone loves him.
Since its founding in 2013, the network commonly known as One America News (OAN) has maintained a presence in Washington, D.C., San Diego, and New York City. Now the network is looking to establish a beachhead in Florida. On its website, the company says it is hiring a political correspondent and videographer to report from Tallahassee.

Miami-Dade Commissioners Approve Community IDs

The next step is for Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava's administration to outline how the program will be rolled out. The commission will vote again when Cava returns with a plan in about two months.
According to Higgins, who sponsored the legislation, all Miami-Dade residents would be eligible to apply for community IDs. The ID cards would provide county residents with photo identification that they could use locally to access government services, open accounts with a credit union, do business at a check-cashing store, or provide as identification in an emergency.
For privacy reasons, the IDs would be administered by a community-based organization rather than by the county. The identities of people with community IDs would not enter the public record.

Jack Abraham Thinks Miami Rent Is $600 a Month

Miami regularly ranks among the worst cities in the entire United States for income inequality and the number of people living in poverty — problems that stem from low wages and a high cost of living. Millennials can't afford a home and may not ever. Miami residents are among the most rent-burdened in the nation.
Without a doubt, the reality of living here is that people are working paycheck to paycheck, spending more than half their income on housing, avoiding doctor visits because they cost too much, and worrying about their future financial stability.
It's not just a problem for younger generations, and the troubles extend beyond the Miami city boundaries. The older person bringing your Uber Eats order, retrieving grocery carts, delivering your pizza, taking care of children or the elderly, or working at farms likely can't afford to retire and will almost certainly labor until they no longer can. They are someone's grandparents, and they provide a glimpse into the future of every person who can't make a decent living in an unaffordable city.

Are Advertising Murals Making Wynwood Too Commercial?

Gonzalez says the BID is trying to keep Wynwood from turning into an overwhelmingly commercial place like Times Square in New York. The BID first noticed advertisements popping up around Wynwood a few years ago around Art Basel time.
"They would appear overnight and by January 4, they'd disappear," Gonzalez says. "It was hard for us to pinpoint where they were coming from and who was putting them up because it happened so fast."

Gonzalez believes advertisers are capitalizing on the increase in visitors to promote products in the bustling neighborhood. But in the past year and a half — Art Basel or not — the advertisement murals have stuck around.

Settlement Gives Broward County Inmates COVID Protections

When businesses began shutting down and residents started sheltering at home at the onset of COVID-19 last year, Todd Watson was running a fever and showing flulike symptoms while being booked into a Broward County jail. Through the intake process, he sat in a room with some 15 people and spent the night in a different unit with about two dozen others.
Social distancing was impossible. Masks weren't made available for those who were incarcerated. On behalf of Watson and other inmates, the American Civil Liberties Union and Disability Rights Florida filed a federal class-action civil-rights lawsuit against Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony this past June, arguing that jail conditions in his jurisdiction were putting people at risk of severe illness or death.
