Severe Weather Info from Friday and Flooding Updates

Weather continues to be the top story around the area as this area saw a good portion of rain Friday. According to information from the National Weather Service, Wayne County recorded 3 inches of rainfall while portions of Edwards County saw rainfall of 3.21 inches. Pope County reported the highest rainfall total in the region as they received 5.2 inches of rain according to the weather service. Over the weekend, weather services officials released some of the damage information from the storms that came through. With the severe weather, only one tornado was reported in the National Weather Service Paducah region and that was in McCracken County, Kentucky. Weather service officials say that tornado was an EF-2 with estimated winds of around 125 miles per hour and a path of 1.5 miles. No injuries or deaths were reported with the weather. The highest wind gust in our area came out of Carmi with a recorded gust of 48 miles per hour. Mount Vernon reported a 41-mile-per-hour gust while West Frankfort saw a gust of 40 miles per hour. Checking River Stages this morning, Flood Warnings Continue on All Area Rivers. On the Little Wabash at Clay City, the reading this morning is at 20.78 feet and slowly falling. The flood stage at that location is 18 feet. The river at that location saw its crest at 2:45 am. At Golden Gate, the river was at 25.01 feet and rising. At Carmi, the gauge was at 27.41 feet and rising. That is considered minor flood stage at that reporting location. On the Wabash at Mount Carmel, the gauge was 19.77 feet. The flood stage is 19 feet. The Skillet Fork at Wayne City crested this morning at 15.63 feet and is now within its banks at 12.27 feet. On the Bonpas Creek at Browns, the gauge reported 18.5 feet. It crested Sunday afternoon at 18.83 feet. WFIW Will continue to monitor the latest in area flooding.
