The mayor of a Manitoba community is saddened by the loss of a historic theatre to an apparent arson overnight.

The theatre opened its doors in 1929 before officially closing in 2019; the building has stood vacant since then.

Mayor Andre Murphy spoke about work being done as the mill rate will increase by 3 percent while the town's mill rate will only increase by 2 percent, lessening the impact on taxpayers.

The current mayor and council are looking into what needs to be done to prevent the landmark from being removed, as the fall budget was front and center at this week’s council meeting.
