The spotlight was back on rapper AKA on Saturday when he opened up about his relationship with his late fiancée Anele “Nelli” Tembe and the events leading up to her untimely death last month.
Speaking to anchor Thembekile Mrototo on The Bar Leader TV, AKA said the couple got engaged in February and planned to spend the rest of their lives together.
Nelli died on April 11 after apparently falling from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town. There is an ongoing police investigation into the circumstances around her death.

Rapper AKA has issued a public statement in response to reports of alleged “violence and drugs” in his relationship with his late fiancée Nelli Tembe, saying he would not be drawn into exposing their troubles as a couple to defend himself against “one-sided views”.
The rapper's statement comes in the wake of a News24 report, which claimed to have seen images where “AKA can be seen using his hands to violently break down a wooden door to enter the bedroom in their apartment in Bryanston, Johannesburg where Tembe was hiding”.

The family of Anele 'Nelli' Tembe hosted an emotional prayer service in her honour on Wednesday evening, with friends sharing their tributes.
Nelli apparently fell from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town on Sunday morning. Her body arrived in Durban on Wednesday ahead of memorial and funeral services later this week.
The prayer service at her family's Durban home was broadcast on Zoom.
Family and friends chanted isiZulu prayers in her memory. Tony Forbes, AKA's father, was in attendance, also leading in prayer.
