Tata Steel has developed a coating for steel surfaces with antimicrobial properties that can retain its effectiveness for over 15 years. The company's formulation, developed after the Covid-19 pandemic, can kill 99% of bacteria on steel sheets when combined with paint. The product is being used in colour-coated sheets for applications in hospitals, schools, and cold storages. Tata Steel has already exported 900 tonnes of antimicrobial coated steel and expects demand to increase in the local market.
