Apple has a feature that alerts users when they're about to visit a website that is known to host malware, or is believed to be a phishing site. This feature is getting an update with iOS 14.5 in order to better protect users' privacy. Till now, the technique involved a check of a database hosted on Google servers, but with iOS 14.5, it now uses an Apple proxy. This is intended to add an extra layer of privacy to the protection Apple already had in place.

Apple recently introduced its App Tracking Transparency feature which is set to release with iOS 14.5. The new tool requires developers to ask for permission to track iOS users across apps for ad targeting. Now, Google is also reported to be working on a similar feature of its own. A recent Bloomberg report has said that Google is exploring an alternative to Apple's App Tracking Transparency feature in an effort to limit data collection and cross-app tracking on Android.

Apple's Privacy-Focused Prompt Starts Appearing for Some iOS 14 Users, Expected to Launch Early 2021

Apple's major upcoming privacy feature that aims to provide users with more control over their data has started appearing with the latest version iOS 14.4 beta. As spotted by MacRumors, some beta testers are now seeing a prompt that lets them decide whether apps should have access to their dada in order to receive more personalised ads from companies. Earlier in June this year, Apple announced that the anti-tracking feature, App Tracking Transparency (ATT) would launch this year, but it was later pushed to 2021. The company's delay received severe criticism from civil and human rights organisation, who even wrote an open letter to CEO Tim Cook in November.
