This Week in Apps: Bumble’s IPO, Google’s missing privacy labels, a developer crusades against scams
Welcome back to This Week in Apps, the weekly TechCrunch series that recaps the latest in mobile OS news, mobile applications and the overall app economy.
The app industry is as hot as ever, with a record 218 billion downloads and $143 billion in global consumer spend in 2020.
Consumers last year also spent 3.5 trillion minutes using apps on Android devices alone. And in the U.S., app usage surged ahead of the time spent watching live TV. Currently, the average American watches 3.7 hours of live TV per day, but now spends four hours per day on their mobile devices.

Gmail on iOS 14 Update Warning Pop Up Issue Persists

10 February 2021, 9:11 pm EST By
Google's suite of applications that runs on Apple devices on iOS 14 is experiencing several "Update Warning" pop-ups as the company has not yet updated its applications to match the Apple Privacy Labels settings. It has been several months since Google updated the application for the latest iOS version of the iPhones and iPads but is somehow refusing to release a new version.
According to Spencer Dailey, Google may be siding with Facebook in disagreeing with the Cupertino giant to reveal information whenever it uses a phone setting or does not want to update for the iOS. Notably, Apple is somehow releasing an update for its iOS 14 software on a monthly or two-month basis that is now on the 14.5 version.
