Gov. Greg Abbott has announced that recipients in 66 Texas counties who are a part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will automatically have their benefits replaced after the Texas winter storm. Aransas, Duval, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Live Oak, Refugio and San Patricio counties are a part of the 66 approved for automatic replacement.
In a release, Abbott’s office explains that the 66 approved counties “met federal criteria for mass replacements of benefits based on the severity of storm impacts in their area.”

President Joe Biden on Saturday approved a major disaster declaration in Texas, a step that allows people and businesses affected by the devastating winter storm to seek federal assistance.
Gov. Greg Abbott requested on Thursday the major disaster declaration for all counties in Texas, according to a statement from his office. The Biden administration approved individual assistance in 77 counties and public assistance for emergency protective measures in all 254 counties.
