From the time that Rajnikanth announced that he would definitely stand for elections, there have been changes and setbacks. On 12 March 2020, Rajinikanth met briefly with the mandram [Rajini Makkal Mandram] chiefs and then left for the Leela Palace where his fans were gathered to hear his latest announcement. As his black Audi approached the hotel’s entrance, frenzied fans rushed forward shouting, ‘Superstar vaazga! Varungaala mudalvar vaazga! (Long live the Superstar! Long live the future chief minister!)’.
Once inside, the seventy-year-old actor, clad in his trademark white kurta-pyjama, walked briskly onto the dais and stood before the microphone. As the thunderous applause subsided, he began to speak. It was a thirty-minute monologue, emotional and defensive. He outlined ‘three novel proposals’ – ‘limited number of party posts to curb corruption, bringing youngsters and clean people to politics and place them in pole positions in the corridor of power and him not being the Chief Minister….’ He asked the people to ‘please stop projecting me as the next chief minister. Tell people about my ideas and let there be a resurgence…. I will come then.’

A newly formed political outfit in Tamil Nadu has launched a quirky style of campaigning — using a humanoid robot.
The robot — Doozy — also doubling up as the party symbol of the India Makkal Munnetra Katchi (IMMK) is expected to spread the word in the run-up to the April 6 assembly elections.
Nearly four-foot tall, the interactive robot — classified as a humanoid — boasts of social interaction, facial recognition and human-like gestures and can even initiate conversations with people. Developed by Chennai-based Doozy Robotics, a touchscreen on its chest displays messages and supports speech. Its design is such that it is accident-free, the company said. “IMMK’s symbol is a robot and so they have decided to use robots for their election campaign,” said Ajmal Thahseen, founder and chairman of Doozy Robotics.

Chennai: Superstar Rajinikanth, on Tuesday, announced that he will not be entering into politics. The U-turn from his prior announcement, wherein, he also announced his intention to contest the forthcoming polls in Tamil Nadu, came after he was admitted to hospital. While four crew members on his Annaatthe set tested positive for COVID-19, the actor was tested negative. He, however, cited health reason, while announcing the decision to not enter politics.
