Investigators have not found any material problems or common piloting errors linking a series of fatal UH-60 Black Hawk crashes over the past year-and-a-half, according to the Army’s safety director, Brig. Gen. Andrew Hilmes.
The loss of two separate three-person National Guard Black Hawk crews in a matter of weeks sparked concern at the Senate Armed Services Committee that a larger pattern of malfunction could be the culprit.

The two-person crew aboard the Apache sustained injuries and both soldiers were taken to a local hospital, said Fort Rucker spokesman Jimmie Cummings Jr.
One pilot has already been discharged from the hospital, Cummings added. Both pilots injuries were described as “minor.” The soldiers were assigned to the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence.

The loss of two UH-60 Black Hawk crews in less than two weeks signals the need for a comprehensive look at the helicopter’s mechanical, software and electrical systems to see if the cases “fit a larger pattern of malfunction,” according to a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Nine National Guard troops have been killed in Black Hawk crashes in roughly one year, raising “significant concerns about a systemic issue with the Black Hawk helicopter operation cycle,” Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., said in a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Friday.
