I’d assumed that the title of Lynda Benglis’s recent exhibition of forty-four modestly scaled wall sculptures, “Skeletonizer,” was a nonce coinage with a horror-movie vibe, but no: Merriam-Webster online informs me that the word refers to “any of various lepidopteran larvae that eat the parenchyma of leaves reducing them to a skeleton of veins.”
