UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. A newly founded, interdisciplinary research center established to further foundational and applied artificial intelligence (AI) in engineered systems will bring together expertise from 75 researchers representing 24 academic units across Penn State.

Penn State center to advance AI tools to accelerate scientific progress

A new research center at Penn State, the Center for Artificial Intelligence Foundations and Scientific Applications, or CENSAI, will unite Penn State researchers to explore the use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool to investigate key steps in the scientific process. CENSAI is part of Penn State’s Institute for Computational and Data Sciences, and it includes faculty from across Penn State.

“The emergence of big data and advances in machine learning have dramatically accelerated some of the key steps in science. However, many key elements of the scientific process remain largely untouched and untamed by artificial intelligence,” said Honavar. “We believe that we can dramatically accelerate scientific progress, potentially by several orders of magnitude, in some disciplines, by effectively addressing these bottlenecks.” ....

AI Hub to help enhance Penn State's global leadership in artificial intelligence

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. Penn State has launched an expanded initiative in artificial intelligence (AI), termed the AI Hub. It will bring together the University’s considerable resources and talent in AI to further advance its position as a global leader developing fundamental innovations in AI, in using AI and machine learning (ML) to solve the hardest challenges, and to create unique applications of AI and ML in unforeseen areas. The hub also will help to address a national priority for the U.S. to be the world leader in developing responsible AI.
Lora Weiss, senior vice president for research, announced the initiative, which is designed to forge collaborations among Penn State’s AI researchers, centers and institutes and increase the visibility and impact of Penn State’s AI research. ....

Penn State announces 'expanded' artificial intelligence initiative

Penn State announced Friday an expanded initiative in the field of artificial intelligence titled AI Hub.
AI Hub will utilize the university s resources in artificial intelligence to advance Penn State s position in AI innovations, according to a statement from the university. The new initiative will also use machine learning to solve the hardest challenges, and to create unique applications of AI and ML in unforeseen areas, according to the statement.
Lora Weiss, senior vice president for research, announced the new initiative and outlined some of its goals.
Penn State is poised to take AI to new levels where researchers are already creating new knowledge and discoveries with AI, from tackling climate change to improving health outcomes to developing new materials, Weiss said in the statement. ....
