Scorchers welcome back former McGrath sparring partner

A familiar face and famous former sparring partner of Test great Glenn McGrath is back in charge of the Coast’s top cricket team.
Former Zimbabwean Test player Eddo Brandes has been unveiled as the ‘new’ Sunshine Coast Scorchers head coach for the next three seasons.
It won’t take long for Brandes to make himself comfortable but.
The right arm bowler and handy batsman led the Scorchers to a maiden first grade premiership in the 2005-06 season.
A decade away from the game to focus on business interests which included tomato farming will end when Brandes takes the reins from departing head coach and club legend Ashley Holznagel.

Scorchers look towards next chapter after tough season

Scorchers captain John Turnbull said he will be extremely missed.
“As a coach Pugs (Ashley Holznagel) is probably the most passionate person I’ve ever come across,” Turnbull said.
“He bleeds Scorchers and what the club is about.
“He has such a passion for the club and for the sport so it will be sad to see him move away from a coaching role, but I think it’s necessary for him and his family life.”
Turnbull said it was amazing the impact Holznagel has had on the club and hopes his teammates and other members can recognise how much he has done.
