excited voter and a regular voter is still about the same once they are in the room caucusing tomorrow night. but those numbers all back up what the trump campaign's theory of the case has been all along, which is right now, he is presumptively incumbent within the republican party. he is, despite all of those things you laid out, still the leader of basically a movement within this party. not just a traditional candidate. and they think they can harness that. i suppose if you're nikki haley and you're looking at this in terms of the enthusiasm, you're trying to find something to look at that gives you a little bit of hope. a lot of what we find from these trump supporters is that they are first-time caucus goers. that cuts both ways. these are people who are not necessarily part of the process technically, they're coming out to be new voters, maybe they're younger, maybe they're new here, maybe they were politically disengaged. it creates a bigger universe of people for him to reach. i've talked to a lot of those folks here today, theoretically there's an opportunity to go more into the show and less into the voting. but all the trump supporters i've talked to since i got on the ground here in iowa have been telling me versions of the

iowa for us this hour. so garrett, let me start with you. because you've got some reporting to do their. you've got a trump campaign event preparing to happen behind you. give us a sense. there's is new poll out, give us a y of the land on the ground. how is the trump team and others feeling about where things stand at this point? we >> jen, they're booed by the same numbers you just talked about. particularly that enthusiasm number which they feel like is evidenced even by the crowd behind me here. these events that donald trump has been doing in iowa are much smaller than his traditional mega rallies, but it's still a packed house. when it feels like temperatures of negative 35 degrees, the feels like here, that tells you something about how committed these trump supporters are. now, a very excited voter and irregular voter is still about the same once they are in the room caucusing tomorrow night. but those numbers all back up what the trump campaign's theory of the case has been all along, which is right now, he is presumptively incumbent within the republican party. he is, despite all of those things you laid out, still the leader of basically of movement

i've never met them. >> that's a great point. >> jesse: i have a feeling, if you remove your genitals, there's a few people who might have had some regrets. >> yeah, no kidding. football, as you said, is so important. because, you know this, young boys are absolute knuckleheads. they need structure. they need some form of leadership. you know kids, i know tons of kids who wouldn't have graduated from high school if they weren't playing football, basketball, soccer, baseball, whatever it was. they passed algebra two and chemistry so they can continue to play sports. when i see stories like this, i question whether anyone ever thinks at all about all the kids we lose when we don't allow them to get enrolled in sports. like you said. most careers and when you're a teenager, but hopefully that light bulb moment happens and you recognize, hey, i can be good at something. i learned discipline. i learned how to work hard and get knocked down and get back up, and now i'm ready for the real world.

30%? you see the former president very strong. if she pulls a 30 and trump is at 40, all of a sudden this whole thing changes. >> i think it does. if there's anything i've learned about politics having watched them since i was a kid is things are unpredictable. early in 2016 i would not have seen donald trump coming. in 2020 i did not see joe biden becoming the nominee. this things are unpredictable the weather is a factor we don't know that. the other big factor the governor of iowa and i met her kim reynolds i met her when i was campaigning very popular gave a strong endorsement to ron desantis and traveling around with him. who knows. when you get to new hampshire independents can vote in new hampshire, very popular governor who despises trump who's supporting nikki haley so who knows. >> trace: yeah, i think it's a great question, who knows. and the truth is, if you look at those numbers and katie if we can put those back up, the suffolk poll again, we have

that they were, you rightly point out, signed up to do which is to secure our border. they were already doing it because of a drop in numbers, not because of what abbott did. some agents, who remain anonymous, say they've been stuck in the middle of a political stunt being carried out by abbott. >> well, i've talked to a lot of front-line agents who are loving it. and i agree with you, they started releasing some border patrol agents to do their job outside of the zone, but what governor abbott's doing is going to release even more. look, the numbers aren't down. they won't go back up -- will go back up -- griff: of course they are this. >> they're going to go back up. griff: this is going to play out in a court of law, and i highly think that abbott is going to lose this because you simply can't prevent federal law enforcement officers from doing their federal duty which is to be on that border. >> that's where you and me disagree. actual, i think doj will file action, and they're probably going to win because immigration

the third year in a row he made the college football playoff. the first year, of course, that he broke through. this is a really, really balanced team with a powerful running game, a very good passing game, a clever and mobile quarterback in j.j. mccarthy. and they dominated the line of scrimmage. the old-fashioned football, that's what they did to alabama, which a lot of people thought they could not do to an s.e.c. powerhouse like alabama. that's what they did against washington. it's what they did all year. it's what they did against ohio state. in a sense, michigan is a bit late to this game. ohio state has been at that s.e.c. level for a while. it took michigan a while to catch back up, but now, of course, when you talk about big ten football, starting next year, you'll be including
