The 74th edition of the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) held its first of two ceremonies on April 10 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom' was the big winner. The opening day ceremony was hosted virtually from London's Royal Albert Hall by TV and BBC radio presenter Clara Amfo. The second ceremony is scheduled for the subsequent day. During the ceremony, eight primarily craft-focussed awards were handed out, including casting, costume, makeup and hair, production design, sound, special visual effects, British short film, and British short animation. The remaining awards -- including the performance and best film categories will be handed out on the second night.

'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom', a jazz drama set in 1920s Chicago, won two awards at the opening of the BAFTAs on Saturday, but the race for the main prizes remains open with a list of contenders that shines a spotlight on diversity.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts ceremony is being held virtually over two nights as the COVID-19 pandemic prevents the usual celebrity-packed show with a live audience.
Saturday's opening mainly focused on the crafts side of film-making and handed out nine awards. 'Ma Rainey', starring Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman, won for costume design and makeup and hair. Hollywood throwback 'Mank' won for production design.

The film starring Priyanka Chopra, Adarsh Gourav, and Rajkummar Rao in key roles has been appreciated internationally for a powerful screen adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s Man Booker Booker prize-winning novel of the same name.
The BAFTA Award nominations have been announced and actress Priyanka Chopra is elated to see the film getting nominated in several categories including Best Film. The actress has been nominated herself in the Best Supporting Actress category.
