Bank Holidays 2021: There are 12 days in May 2021 when banks will remain shut
As many as 12 bank holidays are earmarked for the month of May as per the holiday list notified by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). During these days, the operations of both public and private banks will remain closed.
Some of the major holidays falling this month are Id-Ul-Fitr, Buddha Purnima and Bhagvan Shree Parshuram Jayanti among others.
The holidays also include the second and fourth Saturdays as the banks remain closed during these days. 
The holidays are notified by the RBI under three brackets — the Negotiable Instruments Act, Holiday, Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday and Banks' Closing of Accounts.

Customers planning a visit to their respective bank branch in the month of April are advised to plan their visit in accordance with the bank holidays.

New Delhi: If you have some major banking work this week, it is advisable to complete it on Monday as it is most likely that today is the only working day in several states, after which there will be a 4 day holidays break from April 13 to April 16. Banks will be closed for 4 days straight. Banks were also closed on April 10 and April 11 on account of Second Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Though banking activities on mobile and internet will remain uninterrupted, several bank branches will remain closed on account of holidays and the upcoming proposed strike by banking associations in March.
Bank unions have called for a two-day strike starting March 15, to protest against the proposed privatisation of banks.
Banks will be closed for two-day strike on March 15 (Monday) and March 16 (Tuesday), while the previous two days March 13 is a second saturday while March 14 is a Sunday. Thus, to sum it up, banks will remain closed for four days in a row.

"We have been advised by lndian Banks Association (lBA) that united Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) which comprises 9 major Unions, viz. All lndia Bank Employees'Association (AIBEA), All lndia Bank Officers' Confederation (AIBOC), National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE), All lndia Bank Officers' Association (AIBOA), Bank Employees Federation of lndia (BEFI), lndian National Bank Employees Federation (INBEF), lndian National Bank Officers' Congress (INBOC), National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW) & National Organisation of Bank Officers (NOBO), has given a call for all lndia strike by Bank Employees on 15th & 16th March, 2021," said SBI in a regulatory filing.

Banks could also remain closed in mid-March as several bank unions have given a call for a nation-wide strike against government's plan to privatise several public sector lenders.

Banks across the country will remain closed for a total of 11 days in the month of March. This includes the four Sundays and two second Saturdays. According to RBI guideline, banks remain shut on public holidays while certain holidays vary from state to state. 
All-India holidays include Republic Day (January 26), Independence Day (August 15), and Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), Christmas Day (December 25). Festivals like Diwali, Christmas, Eid, Guru Nanak Jayanthi, Good Friday, and so on are also bank holidays.  Aside from National Holidays, both private and public sector banks remain closed on the second, fourth Saturday, and all Sundays of each month.
