Gym here in austin, texas. we focus on the three big strength sports of power lifting, olympic lifting, and strong man, as well as just general strength activities. the mission is just to get anyone who has ever had interest in a strength sport, had interest in barbells, into a gym. we offer classes, beginner classes, small group classes in olympic lifting and power lifting. i ve built the gym along with the framework for keeping everybody s humanity and dignity up front. people want to experience and deserve to experience the empowerment that comes from lifting weights. they deserve to do it in place where people aren t going to judge them. everything here is very intentional, from the color of the walls to how our messaging goes. most of my staff are queer women of color. when you come into the gym someone will likely ask you your pronouns or they ll share theirs. people are hesitant to want to ....

They were put into these beginner classes, low first grade. it was a way to segregate within the school. these families sued. the attorneys made the argument that the children were being unfairly disadvantaged by being put into three levels of first grade. they decided to put children on the stand to demonstrate they could speak english as a defense. the district was saying, we have to do this because they don t know how to speak english. the attorneys decided to put children on the stand to demonstrate that. the argument that the district had was that if we have these mexican kids in our class who don t speak english, it sucks up all the teacher s time. so the english speaking kids are held back. the point was of the so-called mexican kids couldn t speak english. your mother is fourth generation american. that s correct. all the children that testified, the eight children were all u.s. citizens. they were all bilingual, fluent in english and spanish. ....
