A man who murdered his girlfriend's toddler when she went to the hairdressers has been jailed for a minimum of 19 years.
Jacob Marshall suffered injuries to his body and a fatal head injury at his home in Speke in July 2019.
Jonathan Simpson was convicted of murder at Liverpool Crown Court but has kept how Jacob died a "murky secret".
Emma Marshall said she would regret leaving her 22-month-old son with Simpson, 25, for the "rest of my life".
Jacob had suffered a "catalogue of injuries" and was taken to hospital after emergency services were called to Belsford Way on 12 July.

Jonathan Simpson inflicted multiple horrific injuries to 22-month-old Jacob Marshall, then claimed the toddler fell off a couch.
When it became obvious that the lie didn't explain the "car crash" like injuries, he later pretended Jacob fell down the stairs.

A man accused of murdering his girlfriend's 22-month-old son shook the toddler and banged his head hard on the kitchen floor while changing his nappy, a trial has heard.
Jacob Marshall is said to have suffered 'multiple and catastrophic injuries' at the hands of his mother's partner, Jonathan Simpson.
The toddler was found unconscious with a fatal brain injury at Emma Marshall's family home on Belsford Way in Speke, Liverpool, on 12 July 2019.
Mr Simpson, 25, of no fixed address but from Winsford, Cheshire, is on trial at Liverpool Crown Court where he denies murder and manslaughter.
